2023 was an impressive year for the entertainment industry, with the industry finally recovering from the after-effects of the pandemic. 2023 brought us billion-dollar box office hits, long-awaited sequels, and award-winning reenactments. And with the success of the last few films released in 2023, it’s looking like 2024 will be just as, if not more successful than 2023. We probably will get fewer movies though, as 2023 had a lot of writers’ and actors’ strikes and pushing back release dates, but that won’t make 2024 any less of an exciting year. With new actors and returning actors, renewed TV shows, and new movie and TV ideas, it’s predicted that 2024 will be another year of cinematic success. From thrillers to horror to action, there’s a bunch of films coming out for each and every genre. Here are 4 films coming out in 2024 to be excited about.
Joker: Folie a Deux
Joker: Folie à Deux is a sequel to 2019’s The Joker and is scheduled for release on October 4th. Folie a Deux directly translates to “shared madness” in French. Joaquin Phoenix and Zazie Beetz reprise their roles as Joker and Sophie Dumond, and Lady Gaga plays Harley Quinn. One of the few things confirmed about the film is that it will be a musical thriller, confirmed by composer Hildur Guðnadóttir. Fans of the original film are excited to see Joker getting a sequel, considering director Todd Phillips said in 2019 Joker wasn’t meant to have a sequel.. So whether you’re a DC Comic fan, or if you’ve been waiting for another Joker installment, Joker: Folie à Deux is destined to be a box office hit.
A Quiet Place 3
Another long awaited film from a series, A Quiet Place is set to release on June 28th, and is a horror film revolving around Evelyn and Lee’s struggle to keep their family safe in a post-apocalyptic world. Not much is known about this film yet, but the premise of them is the family trying to survive in a world where they will be killed if they are heard making noise. The last installment of this series was back in 2020, so another movie is long overdue. Emily Blunt is reprising her role as Evelyn, and Cillian Murphy is also confirmed to be in the film, replacing John Krasinski as Lee. This is the series for you if you’re into horror or futuristic films.
Twister 2
This film is a remake of the 1996 disaster movie Twister, and is being released on July 19th. Not much is known about the film yet, or how much is being changed, so it might be a good idea to watch the original before this one. The film is about a group of storm chasers who risk their lives trying to do tornado research. This film is set to star Glen Powell, Daisy Edgar-Jones and Kiernan Shipka. The original was so memorable because it was one of the first films to be released on a DVD. This film is described as a thriller/action film, so great if you want something that will leave you on the edge of your seat.
Wicked: Part 1
Coming out on November 27th, this film is the first installment in a two-part series.This film stars the musical talents Ariana Grande as Glinda and Ethan Slater as Boq. This film takes a different look at Oz, with the true hero being cast as the bad guy, who fights the wizard. This film is the classic hearing the villains’ side of the story, and has casted Cynthis Erivo to play Elphaba, the main character in the original Wicked. This film has been an idea since 2012, but because of delays and the pandemic, it’s just now being produced. If you’re a fan of the original musical or a fan of musicals in general, Wicked is the movie for you.
