Falls Church Academy classes offered

As students are choosing for classes they want to take for the upcoming school year, rising 10th, 11th, and 12th graders are eligible to take academy classes for a certain career they want. American Sign Language and Vietnamese are the only two academy classes that 9th graders can take. Falls Church High School offers thirteen different classes that Annandale students can choose from. 

 

  • American Sign Language (9-12th grade): Students can learn basic sign language and can use this course as a world language credit.  

 

 

  • Biotechnology Foundations (11-12th grade): Students will learn about the techniques used for living organisms and microorganisms.

 

 

  • Criminal Justice (10,11,12th grade): Students will have a foundation with the abilities and specialized information in criminal law, security, crimes, and police enforcement. 

 

 

  • Dental Careers Level 1 & 2 (11-12th grade): Students will learn about head and neck anatomy, dental radiology, tooth numbering, and charting. 

 

 

  • Exploring Health Sciences/Exploring the Language of Medicine (10, 11, 12th grade): Students learn about health care systems and health regulatory boards so they can understand medical terminology. 

 

 

  • Emergency Medical Technician 1 & 2 (11-12th grade): This course is for students who are interested in the fire and rescue field. 

 

 

  • Health Informatics (10, 11, 12th grade): Students will learn about the significance of protecting the electronic healthcare industry.

 

 

  • Intro to Nursing 1 & 2: This course isn’t located at Falls Church High School but at the Plum Center for Lifelong Learning. Students in this course will be introduced to nursing.

 

 

  •  Medical Assistant (11-12th grade): Students in this course will learn about CPR and First Aid, charting, and appointment scheduling.

 

 

  • Medical Billing & Coding (10,11,12th grade): Students will learn how to work in an office, learn about medical coding and billing, and the healthcare system. 

 

 

  • Patient Care Technician (12th grade): This course is for students who have already completed Practical Nursing 1 and 2. 

 

 

  • Pharmacy Technician Level 1 & 2 (11-12th grade): Students will learn about patient and medication safety in the first year, while in the second year they will learn about pharmacy abbreviations and calculations, as well as engage in a clinical program. 

 

 

  • Vietnamese 1,2,3  (9- 12th grade)

 

If students want to go and visit the course they may be interested in or plan on taking next year then they can fill out a visitor pass form.
