Star Wars saga comes to an end

The Star Wars franchise is set to release its ninth and final movie to complete the last of the three trilogies on Dec. 20.

“I am really excited to watch the newest movie because I’ve been a fan since the start,” freshman Gabby Bolanos said. “I have also been waiting to watch it for the past couple months so I am planning on going to watch it as soon as it comes out.”

This supposed final movie is predicted to settle the conflict between the Resistance and the First Order to determine the future of the galaxy for eternity.

“I am interested in the final Star Wars movie because of all of the recent hype about it. The trailers also look good with lots of action,” junior Anthony Assadzadeh said.

The first Star Wars movie in the nine episode saga (The Last Hope) was released a whole 42 years ago with the series seeing a change both directors and actors.

To many, this turn in the tide for the franchise has been for the worse seeing that the hype for the last three movies, especially, has been loads weaker.

However, this time around, the franchise has something else under their name that garnered necessary support. That is the new Disney Plus series The Mandalorian which brings a new perspective to the storyline, which may be enough to help end the series with a bang.

This is especially important because episodes seven and eight (The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi respectively) did not do as well as predicted in box offices.

Much of this is due to the death of star actor Carrie Fisher (who played Leia Organa), the retirement of Harrison Ford from his role of Han Solo, and the death of Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), in The Last Jedi.

Despite the controversy, Fisher has remained a central character in The Last Jedi thanks to CGI, however many fans have voiced their wishes to just hire a new actor to cover the role.

With the three main stars who have been involved with the saga since day one, it will be interesting to see how fans react to the passage of roles to younger actors, most of whom weren’t even alive to see the release of the first trilogy.

Since their introduction to the series for The Force Awakens in 2016, it seems as if the original fans who saw the first movie in theaters in 1977 favor the “OGs” Fisher, Ford, and Hamill.

“I think The Rise of Skywalker will be a great conclusion to the series because it features the same director as episode seven, which I very much enjoyed,” freshman Armen Boghosian said.

This is mostly due to the fact that Star Wars has spanned 42 years in length and people are thirsting for a new perspective on the series. They are tired of seeing the same few main Jedi fighting against the threat of The First Order.

Other than the same old episodes that form a trilogy, the franchise has introduced a few new stand alone movies.

These have given new perspectives that zoom in on a specific event that took place at some point in the storyline.
“Overall, these new Star Wars movies are cool because they bring me back to when I watched Star Wars as a kid,” Assadzadeh said.

Regardless of how well the final Star Wars saga concludes in theaters, the franchise at least has a new set of approaching productions that can continue the legacy for generations to come.
