Humans of Annandale: Megan Brown
I joined Leadership to become more involved at Annandale. It’s been really interesting to see how all of the school events get planned and I like being able to make decisions about events that I get to go to with my friends and peers.
In leadership there are a couple of committees that are in charge of different things like hype squad, advertising, podcast and climate and culture.
I’m on the advertising committee, so we make things like the big Spirit Week posters you see in the halls, flyers for dances and other events and control leadership’s social media.
During class, we use our time to plan events and complete our committee responsibilities. It’s not that much of a time commitment outside of class except for weeks of really big events like the Homecoming football game and dance, and Heritage Night, but it’s definitely worth it.
I also play field hockey at Annandale. I’ve been playing since third grade and started because my grandma played when she was in high school and got me into it. My freshman year I made varsity and have been playing ever since.
The fall season was my last time playing field hockey at Annandale, which was definitely bittersweet. I tried to make the team as fun and inclusive as I could this year because that’s what the seniors did my freshman year and I wanted others to have that same experience.
After I graduate, I plan on going to a four year college and studying international affairs because I want to have a job where I can travel and live all over the world. Right now, my top three schools are the University of Maine, Rhode Island and Virginia Tech.
