The positives about trailer classes
How well do you like the trailers? Well, we know that most students hate walking to the trailers. Walking in the cold, the rain and heat just to reach their classroom is troublesome. Some students see it as burden to be further away from the main building, but what are the good qualities of the trailers?
For one, the teachers of the trailers can set the temperatures they want.
Spanish teacher Antonio Rivadeneira sees the positives about having to teach their class in a trailer.
“The teachers have the chance to set the temperature they want,” Rivadeneria said.
Next, the school is like a maze. The hallways of the main building are not always easy to navigate. Students can easily get lost in the building if they’re new. There is not a specific order in which classrooms can be easily found. Classes are usually ordered by subject and the room numbers can vary since not all classes are grouped together in one hall.
However in the trailers, each trailer is marked by a specific number in order, making it easier to find classrooms since they are ordered in a numerical way.
But is the trailer enjoyable? What about the walk to the trailers?
“They have a chance to go outside, you know, and enjoy the beautiful weather. I know sometimes we have snow, but I mean it’s really nice for kids to go out and breathe the air,” Rivadeneira said.
Walking in the cold might not be enjoyable, but it allows students to enjoy the outside for a brief amount of time. Having a trailer classroom also gives students a change in setting since they are able to be in a different part of the building. Classrooms outside also tend to be smaller and disconnected from the inside which can be a good thing for noisy classrooms.
But why are trailers here?
Because of the limit classrooms inside the main building, some teachers had to use trailers. They are additions so classroom sizes are not as large. Having a large class size will reduce the amount of one on one time a teacher can give to a student. If there are less students, the teacher has to worry less about the number of students and will allow them to help those who need extra assistance.
You don’t want to have sit in a random hallway to be able to learn, do you? Or share a classroom with another class?
Combined classrooms can be confusing and there is more of a chance that the student will be distracted.
You may not like the trailers now, especially on the days when there is rain, but you might change your mind when the weather gets warm.
