X-Men: Days of future past movie review
The new X-Men movie, X-Men: Days of Future Past, was released to theaters on May 23. The movie proved to be very good, and did not disappoint any X-Men fans at all. In fact, it only made them like the series even more.
The film takes place in about 20 years in the future. The world is in a dystopian state where the “Sentinels” rule the planet. cities are destroyed everywhere, and the Sentinels kill anyone who is a mutant or has any connection to a mutant (for those who don’t know, mutants are people with superpowers in the X-Men universe). very few mutants have survived, but those include Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), Magneto (Ian McKellen), Professor X (Patrick Stewart), and Storm (Halle Berry). They devise a plan to have Wolverine sent back into the past to alter history and make sure the Sentinels never came to be.
They Sentinels were made by Bolivar Trask (Peter Dinklage), to kill all mutants so they don’t become a threat later on. In real time, Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), kills Trask and makes the government pursue his Sentinel idea. Wolverine’s goal is to go back and convince Mystique to let Trask live so that they will deny his plan. Wolverine goes back in time and get the help from the younger version of Professor x and Magneto, who at that time hate each other. After much fighting in the 70’s, the decade they have travelled to, Professor X is finally able to convince Mystique to let Trask live.
Meanwhile, while all this drama is going on the past, the characters are still in real time trying to keep Wolverine’s mind in the past. They are hiding in a large temple hoping that the Sentinels won’t find them like they usually do. After much waiting, the Sentinels arrive ands kill everyone except Magneto, Professor X, Wolverine, and Kitty Pryde (Ellen Page) who is the girl that is keeping Wolverine in the past. When those four are about to be killed, Mystique drops the gun and lets Trask live. This instantly sets off a chain reaction, making all the characters wake up in a normal peaceful world with no memory of anything that happened. Only Wolverine and Professor X know what happened, and will ever know what happened.
The ending, although very confusing at first, proved to be very good. Since there have been seven X-Men related movies before this, there were bound to be mistakes made throughout the series. The ending of this movie made it so that all the events that happened in the other movies never happened. It is kind of hard to grasp that idea, but it almost gives the series a fresh start by bringing back all the characters that died throughout the movies. The film altogether was very action-packed, and not to mention very fast paced. There were no details left out, everything was explained, and the suspense of the movie was strong the whole time.
The next movie in the series has already been confirmed, and is called X-Men: Apocalypse. Like all the movies that were included in the Avengers, Days of Future Past decided to have a scene after the credits as well. The scene showed a young boy in Ancient Egypt who seems to be putting the pyramids together with telekinetic abilities. Not ,much information is given, but it is implied that he will be the villain in the next movie in 2016.
