Seniors reflect on high school sports
The Class of 2014 is finally graduating and couldn’t be more excited. During their four years at Annandale they have made new friends, done new things, and worked hard to get where they are now.
Seniors who were student athletes had a unique high school experience. They went to practices, games, and banquets. They got home later and a lot of the time had to stay up later to finish their work. It may have seemed difficult at times, but most wouldn’t have had it any other way. Even though seniors can not wait to leave high school and start the rest of their lives, there are also things that they will miss about their time at Annandale playing sports. “I will miss playing with all my teammates who have become my closest friends,” senior and varsity field hockey, varsity girls swim & dive, and varsity girls lacrosse player Lizzie Manthos said.
“I’m going to miss all the pep talks and prayers we had before games. They became a little tradition,” senior and varsity cross country runner and varsity girls lacrosse player Hayat Yusuf said. “I’m also going to miss singing Disney songs on our way home from UVA.”
Graduating student-athletes definitely made some lasting memories that they wouldn’t have been able to experience if they had not played a sport. “My favorite memory would have to be all the team dinners and adventures with my teams,” Manthos said.
“My favorite memory would be this year at band camp when we had our senior prank,” senior and marching band, varsity girls swim & dive, and varsity girls lacrosse player Kaitlin Martindale said.
