Seniors start raising money for prom
The class of 2014 started the week with fundraiser sales from Tuesday October 29th to Friday November 1st, offering a Tutti Frutti reprieve and bake sales with the purpose to raise money for prom.
“Most of our money goes towards prom” Class Advisor Jem Austin said. “There are things that we have to purchase, but almost 96 percent [of the money raised] goes to prom” Austin said “ I think when people are working together to raise money they are going to feel more invested in it, so that they feel more like is apart of their event,” Austin said.
Seniors and advisors reflected on the importance of fundraiser and the teamwork as well.
“I think fundraising is the best way to get money especially because you need a lot of money for prom activities” senior President Melissa Pratt said.
“Fundraisers are definitely the best way to raise money because you have to pay for prom by yourself” senior Executive Board Member Eric Mejean said, “ So [fundraising is] the best way to get all the money together.”
Besides organizing events at the school, seniors and advisors also look for events outside of Annandale.
“Carrie Schaefer is our class advisor. . . [and typically] she will call restaurants for us in other places and organizes the whole thing,” Mejean said.
Nonetheless students are very hand-on with the fundraising process.
“The fundraiser is student led. So this is not Ms. Schaefer or I raising money, it’s the students raising money for themselves. So that’s one of the things that we want them to be in charge of their own class” advisor Austin said.

I’m confused, isn’t Alana Buto the senior class president, not Melissa.
