ESOL students took to the stage on May 12 to perform. In their second performance of the year, Theatre Without Borders rehearsed for three months to take on the roles of the characters from Shakespeare’s Macbeth, a story of romance and action.
The play, which was adapted to meet the needs of Limited English Proficiency (LEP) students, was “much more technologically advanced than previous productions” ESOL teacher and Theatre Without Borders organizer Leslie Winkler said.
“Overall I think the play went fantastically well, especially considering how difficult of a play it was,” Winkler said.
Working together with Woodson High School’s Adult education and Bryant High School, the students were solely responsible for the technological aspects. “This was also the first year that we were able to have a student be the complete operator of the lights, which is definitely a step forward for our program,” Winkler said.
