Journalism students attended the quarterly “AHS Meet the Press” session in Clausen Hall during R3 and W8 flex on Tuesday, March 23. Presenter Richard Wolf spoke about his professional career in journalism and helped to inform students about political coverage, the path into the profession of journalism and his own personal experiences in the field.
”To me being a journalist is all about getting out into the world,” said Wolf.
Wolf is a journalist with the highly acclaimed newspaper, USA Today. He has covered many significant stories over the course of his career with a special focus on politics. He has traveled with former President George W. Bush and current President Barack Obama in pursuit of political stories.
“The issues of the past year have been huge,” said Wolf in regards to the new healthcare bill and the economic bailout.
Students were able to learn about what it is like to be a professional journalist and gained insight on how to get into a career in journalism.
“It was so interesting learning about journalism from a professional who has been in real life situations,” said junior Kristen Hennessy.
Freshman Betsy Kruse said, “I found it very beneficial and informative, especially learning about political journalism.”
