Pupusas Express promises delicious Salvadoran fare
Pupusas Express is a Salvadoran restaurant located in the Annandale Shopping Center on Columbia Pike. The restaurant is named after a traditional Salvadoran dish called pupusas. Pupusas are a national dish in El Salvador. It can be a flatbread or cake made out of rice or corn flour. It can come with cheese, squash and refried beans. Pupusas are offered at the restaurant currently with customizations if preferred.
Despite being small, the store makes up for it in other areas. When you enter, the employees greet all their customers. The staff is extremely friendly; most staff members would come and issue small talk with their customers. The restaurant is very homey and can be very crowded as well meaning business is good.
All employees wear masks and gloves. Tables are distanced from each other and they offer hand sanitizer on the counter top. There is also outdoor seating. The restaurant is clean and goes by Covid guidelines.
They do dine in, pickup, and delivery. You can order online off their website. it offers all the information needed. They have a wide variety to choose from. They offer pupusas, traditional food, soups, appetizers, side items, American food, salads, and desserts. Prices are reasonable, some dishes are slightly expensive. All food is delivered quickly. The wait is not long at all in store, most would be 10 minutes all depending on your order.
I ordered the Pupusa de Queso for $2.25, Chicken Quesadilla Express for $9.50 and lastly the Chicken Nachos Express for $10.50. Everything is well seasoned and cooked nicely. But, the pupusas were slightly dry. All orders can come with sourcream and guacamole, if wanted. Many dishes are made with maize (corn).
Pupusas Express is open from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. They have multiple locations around Virginia, like one in Herndon. Their phone number is 571-378-0018.
They have a Facebook account and their restaurant is on Trip Advisor, Grubhub and more. Overall, if you are looking for good food with a good feel, this is the place to go.
