After having visited a French style bakery, we decided that our next destination would be Shilla Bakery; pastries done Korean style. In the same shopping center as Food Corner Kabob, it is often overlooked. We were lucky to enter the store after they pulled their pastries out of the oven.
In addition to delicious pastries, Shilla offers frozen yogurt, coffee beverages, quenching teas, cakes, and sandwich options for lunch.
We purchased a croissant and a packaged slice of chestnut cake to share. Skipping over the frozen yogurt, we proceeded to exit the store and indulge in another set of pastries in our quest to discover hidden bakeries throughout Annandale.
The croissant was warm and delicious, with a hint of sweet honey in the midst of the buttery, flaky bread. The cake was slightly dry and compact, but the coating on top balanced out the dryness of the cake. Both pastries were satisfying, but they were nothing special.
We concluded that Shilla bakery must be known for its cakes, frozen yogurt, and teas, and not its pastries. However we recommend that you try something new, especially after school if you need to satisfy a sweet-tooth craving.
