Olympics showcase style
In less than a week, around 6,000 athletes are expected to take part in the opening ceremony for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. The Olympic Stadium will usher in an array of colors as athletes walk down while adorning their uniforms.
Designer labels around the world try to make statements by using the games as a marketing strategy. This year, Team USA’s uniforms are designed and manufactured in the U.S by Ralph Lauren. The company faced criticism weeks before the 2012 Summer Olympics for making the uniforms in China.
Moreover, security concerns will hinder American athletes from showing their patriotism. Officials are warning athletes not to wear their uniforms outside Olympic venues as terror treats are still prevalent.
Elsewhere, well known brands such as Lacoste (France), H&M (Sweden) and Giorgio Armani (Italy) will add chic to their respective national uniforms.
On one note, the 2014 Olympics can triumph as the most stylish games in history. However, every game seems to have athletes wearing silly and even ridiculous looking uniforms.
