“It was so entertaining to just walk around the lobby and see all the interesting costumes and shirts people were wearing,” sophomore Jonathan Pratt, who attended the show at Kingstowne Regal Cinemas, said.
In terms of costumes, there was an abundance of Harry, Ron and Hermione doppelgangers, but some other creative costumes stood out. One person dressed as Voldemort, complete with a white swim cap, toy snake around their neck, cape, and sign that said, “Kick me, I’m Voldemort.”
Another fan dressed as Hagrid, the loveable half-giant. In order to portray him, the person wore a large curly wig, a gigantic black coat, and several toy dead ferrets hanging from his clothes. Both he and the fake Voldemort were a huge hit, posing for many pictures with other excited fans.
In terms of shirts, some were kept simple and to the point, displaying statements along the lines of “Deathly Hallows Part Two” or “Harry Potter Midnight Premiere” while others were slightly more amusing. Sophomore Tessa Iglesias, a lifelong Harry Potter fan, made her shirt with the Deathly Hallows logo on it and quotes from the author J.K. Rowling on the back.
Other comical statements included “It’s not Polyjuice Potion, I always look this good,” and “Weasley Is Our King” in salute to various themes throughout the seven books and eight movies.
The end of the series meant that this was the last time for fans to express themselves while attending a premiere. Some devotees have attended not only midnight movie premieres, but also midnight book releases, which stopped in 2007 with the release of the seventh book. The movie may have been exciting and epic within itself, but the costumes and designs that the fans displayed were a close second.
