Willy Adames – New York Yankees
According to an MLB.com article, Willy Adames is linked to 4 possible teams. The San Francisco Giants, the New York Mets, the New York Yankees, and the Los Angeles Dodgers. I don’t like the Mets too much as a fit for Adames, as he’d have to move to 3rd base because of Francisco Lindor being at short, and Ronny Mauricio and Luisangel Acuna both being 2nd baseman. Adames is also a right handed batter, with 5 out of the 9 hitters in the Mets lineup are already right handed batters. Adames would make it 6, taking over lefty Brett Baty’s spot at third base. The Dodgers are another team where I don’t really like the fit that much. Adames wouldn’t really fit at 3rd or at short, with Mookie Betts and Max Muncy taking those 2 positions. Los Angeles also has a great balance of right and left handed batters, along with switch hitters. If I were the Dodgers, I’d be more interested in spending the money on relief pitching help, or another outfielder. That leaves the Giants and the Yankees. The Giants make more sense to me, as Buster Posey(the Giants’ new president of baseball operations) said that the Giants are making acquiring shortstop a top priority this offseason. But with that being said, do not count the Yankees out. The Yankees have a need at 3rd base and could use Adames at the hot corner. I think the Yankees will sign him however, considering how they have been willing to spend whatever it takes for a positional need in the past.
Ha-Seong Kim – San Francisco Giants
Kim’s free agent value took a massive drop considering he might be out for the start of the season because of a shoulder injury. He has a career OPS+ of 99, which is just below average. However, his defensive abilities stand out, as he won the Gold Glove award in 2023 with the Padres. It is also worth noting that Bob Melvin, the current manager of the San Francisco Giants, formerly coached the Padres during some of Kim’s tenure.
Gleyber Torres – Seattle Mariners
Non-top 30 MLB.com ranked Yankee prospect Caleb Durbin is expected to play a big role for the Yankees in 2025, and the Seattle Mariners seem like an excellent fit. Dylan Moore would be starting right now, and a 104 OPS+ just simply doesn’t cut it for a 32 year old. Ryan Bliss is the next man up, but the Mariners need an impact bat to be in contention and Torres is exactly the guy that Seattle needs. The 2 time All Star posted a career high 4.0 WAR in 2022 and he is a career above average hitter.
Christian Walker – Washington Nationals
Yes, the New York Yankees are most likely interested but I think Walker is just a second choice if they don’t acquire Pete Alonso. I see the Nationals wanting Walker more, as their starting first baseman right now is Juan Yepez, who is not an everyday player for a contending team. Walker is a way above league average bat who is a top of the line defensive player as well. He is a 3 time gold glove winner with Arizona and he has been with the Diamondbacks since 2017.
Pete Alonso – New York Yankees
Alonso is a former 4 time all star with the other New York team, the New York Mets. He also won Rookie Of The Year with them in 2019. He has a career 134 OPS+ as well, which may intrigue a lot of the big market teams. The Mets are another team that I believe will try to sign(or in their case resign) Alonso. The Astros are another interesting fit for Pete Alonso, as Jon Singleton is their starting first baseman right now, and they can definitely improve at the position. They have also shown that they are willing to spend money at first base, signing Jose Abreu prior to the 2023 season.
Alex Bregman – Houston Astros
Bregman has multiple accolades such as being a 2 time all star, 2nd in MVP voting in 2019, leading the MLB in WAR in 2019, 2024 gold glove winner, and a nearly 40 career WAR. the Phillies are an interesting fit, with Jeff Passan saying that Phillies starting third baseman Alec Bohm is on the Philadelphia trade block. The Astros should definitely be interested in bringing him back, as Bregman is a 2 time World Series winner with the club. The Nationals might also be a solid fit, as Bregman would replace the young Dominican Jose Tena at the hot corner, and while the Nationals are at the final stages of rebuilding, they’re still rebuilding, and Washington needs to give the young players time to develop.
Anthony Santander – Baltimore Orioles
The Orioles have to be willing to spend some money, and Santander is a great fit in Camden Yards. He hit a career best 44 home runs in 2024, while also recording a career high 134 OPS+(not counting the 2020 COVID-shortened season). He had a great year in 2024, along with having a plus arm throughout his career.
Teoscar Hernandez – Boston Red Sox
Teoscar posted a 137 OPS+ in 2024, and the Orioles and Red Sox appear to be interested in Hernandez. The Orioles are an interesting fit, but I think Santander is more of a top priority. The Los Angeles Dodgers should be the most interested, as Hernandez was a key part of the Dodgers’ world series win. I think the Red Sox could sign him and put him in right field, then trade Wilyer Abreu to the White Sox as part of a trade involving Chicago ace Garrett Crochet.
Corbin Burnes – New York Mets
Burnes would fit really well in this Mets rotation. The Mets rotation needs an ace and Burnes is the best starting pitcher out there. Burnes would be the first step to making a mediocre to bad rotation better and Burnes could help the Mets with their chase for a championship.
