As the winter season for Atom Nation kicks off, the Grappling Atoms girls team has grown!
This season is the second year of the Lady Grappling Atoms as the team has grown from 3 wrestlers to 8. As the ladies kick off their season, one wrestler looks at this growth and reflects on it. “Growth in the sport means that I get to share and normalize doing something I love with new people” said junior and returning wrestler Ana Jensen. Along with this growth comes a new title as this year, the Lady Grappling Atoms now have their own team instead of being joined with the JV and varsity mens team like last year. Jenson adds, “It’s nice to have structure in having an official girls team this year.”
As the lady Grappling Atoms start their practice, the fresh team is excited to get their first look at competition when they hit the mat for their scrimmage Thursday, Nov. 20 at home against the Falls Church Jaguars and the West Potomac Wolverines.
As tryouts come a close and tournaments come closer, the Lady Grapping Atoms are ready to take on anything that comes their way on the mat. Those interested in following this fresh and resilient wresting squad can find them on Instagram @ahs.girlswrestling
