The Atoms Field Hockey team came off a impressive season, going undefeated in the National District, which led to the Atoms clinching first seed for divisional play. The Atoms are under coaching from Head Coach Corin Uviedo.
Coach Uviedo began coaching field hockey for the Annandale Boys and Girls Club (ABGC) in 2012 and fell in love with coaching and helping young students excel in her sports. Uviedo said “ I started coaching because I love the sport of field hockey and wanted to teach it to my kids, but then realized how much I love coaching young people in general.”
Uviedo took over coach the Atoms since 2018 and has racked up a number of achievements ranging from Nation District Champions last year, to District and Regional Coach of the Year! Uviedo doesnt take these awards herself, instead she uses them as a reflection of her team. “I think it is a bigger reflection on the players on the team. They have shown me and others how hard they are willing to work and sacrifice to build a successful season” added Uviedo.
Uviedo uses a coaching style that includes intensity and goofiness to coach the team. Having a balanced coaching style between intensity and having fun played a key role in the teams chemistry, which led them to an outstanding season. Uviedo added, “I want to foster an environment where players can grow a healthy love for the sport while also having a good time with their teammates.”
