AHS summer sports camps have returned.
A staple of the Annandale youth and entire community, these camps provide young athletes with the opportunity to connect with others, build leadership and important teamwork skills, and enhance their abilities.
There will be four camps held throughout this summer, guaranteeing an opportunity for all athletes.
“I enjoyed working the camps as a counselor because I got to teach and play sports with kids that are maybe continuing or just learning how to play that sport,” sophomore Jaden Banos said. “I think it was beneficial because I got to work on my people skills.”
The Multi-Sport camp will be held for 2nd-9th graders from June 20-23, where athletes can compete in fun contests and win prizes. The Olympics camp will then be held from June 26-29, where campers will have the opportunity to compete in olympic sports for medals. The camp will be held by varsity head baseball and football coach Christopher Bagot.
“Both the Olympic and multi-sport camps are designed to maximize fun for the campers,” Bagot said. “I want to introduce elementary school and middle school age students to some sports maybe they wouldn’t always get to play. We try to make it competitive but also a lot of fun.”
Following the multi-sport and olympic camps, the AHS basketball program and head coach Jerome McAvoy will host a basketball camp for rising 4th-9th graders from July 10-14. This camp will cost $250, with each day focused on a different basketball skill and campers receiving a t-shirt and report card on their basketball abilities at the end of the camp.
Lastly, the summer camp schedule will conclude with a series of girls lacrosse and field hockey camps. These camps are for K-9th grade students, and they cost $120 per week. Camps will be held from July 10-14, 17-21, and 24-28, ensuring an opportunity for athletes.
“These camps are valuable in many ways. It connects our school to the community. It allows students to get used to coming to Annandale and develop some relationships with some of the coaches and staff, Bagot said.
Counselors and coaches work extremely hard to provide a great experience for all campers.
In addition to a fun week with friends and teammates, these camps are a great way for current and future AHS athletes to connect and build relationships that will help them perform at their highest level throughout their AHS careers.
