Girls lacrosse head towards districts

As the team heads into their final stretch of regular season district games, they look to keep improving and prepare for the playoffs.
The team faces off against Thomas Jefferson on Monday (results not available before pub date). The Atoms are coming off of a 17-7 win against Falls Church.
The Atoms close out the regular season playing Mount Vernon on 4/28 and Edison on 5/3.
The team has had a relatively successful season this year, and they plan on finishing the season out strong.
“Our season has been very productive. Everyone is constantly improving and stepping up to the challenges we face with each team,” junior Hannah Vaughn said.
Constant improvement has been extremely important for the team, as they have faced countless challenges and very tough opponents.
“We have been working hard but we will need to continue to improve to get through this season and on to districts,” junior Correne Bellem said.
Hard work and determination are exactly what the Atoms need to make a deep run in the district tournament.
The district tournament starts on May 6th, so it is important that the team closes out the season strong to get a high seed in the district tournament.
To get a high seed in the district tournament, it is important that the team continues to improve.
“We need to continue to improve on our communication and never giving up on the ball during plays,” Vaughn said.
Communication is vital for the success of the Atoms, as it allows the team to play better together and execute different plays.
Although improvement is very important for the team’s success, the Atoms have also been doing many things well in their recent stretch of games.
“We have been doing well on finding ways to improve and adapting during games,” Bellem said.
As the team heads into districts, it’s very important that the team is prepared.
Preparation for important games starts with hard work and focus in practice.
“Recently, we’ve focused on having solid transitions down the field so our games are more fast paced and fun,” Vaughn said.
Having solid transitions is very important for the Atoms as it allows the team to have more opportunities to score and win games.
The Atoms have many goals for the remainder of the season that they wish to achieve.
“My main goal for the rest of the season is for my team to win the rest of our district games and have everyone comfortably play their positions no matter the difficulty of the teams we go against,” Vaughn said.
The Atoms have been constantly improving throughout the entire season, and they are ready and prepared to meet their goals and play well in the district playoffs.
“I think that we have a lot of really solid players and if we continue to put in the work we can see a lot of great improvements,” Bellem said.
