Volleyball senior night
On Wednesday Oct. 28, Annandale’s varsity volleyball team held their annual senior night. The crowd celebrated the hard work and dedication put in by the seniors over the years they have been on the team.
There are six seniors graduating from the varsity team this year. Those seniors are Hannah Shartel, Ruth Tiguh, Brooke Thadeus, Symone Jenkins, Almaz Abedje and Kaitlyn Pacak.
To start off the night, each senior was accompanied into the gym by their family and were congratulated by their coaches, Mr. Kerns and Principal Thomas. They were then each given gift baskets.
While this went on, the juniors on the team read aloud a paragraph about each senior. They talked about the senior’s future plans, what being on the team has done for them and favorite memories from their time on the team.
Once the applause ended for Annandale’s seniors, the seniors of Lake Braddock were acknowledged and given flowers.
After everything was over, it was time for the game to begin. The Atoms did their usual routines to get ready for the big game against the Bruins. Since it was their senior night, this was a game the team really wanted to win.
Once the game started, the morale of the team was very high and the crowd was really into the game. Annandale and Lake Braddock were neck and neck in the beginning, but the Bruins took a lead that they wouldn’t let go of causing them to win the first set.
In the second set the Atoms had a strong lead for a good amount of the time with impressive plays from senior Symone Jenkins and junior Katie Garrish, but the Bruins lead a comeback to take the set.
The team gave their full effort but it was not enough as Lake Braddock took the third and final set to bring an end to the night.
