Once again, it’s the time of year when spring sports begin. Athletes across the school tried out to earn a position on their favorite teams. With sports teams ranging from Baseball and Softball to Tennis and Soccer, there were many options for students.
“We have some talented athletes, several returning players, and some good depth. If we work hard, develop good team chemistry, and play smart, I think we’ll get a lot of wins,” head soccer coach Ryan Mrowka said.
Students have positive outlooks towards this season as well.
“I’m hoping to go far in the season with my team. You can’t go far in soccer unless all members work together to score,” senior David Belay said.
For baseball tryouts, players who earned varsity letters last year did not have to try with those who did not. All other prospective players had to show their skills on February 18, 19, and 20.
“Our theme this year is ‘The Main Event.’ Each situation is pass or fail and [we need] to win each one and do it again,” head baseball coach Ron Abrigo said.
Softball season has also commenced bringing six returning players and six new players to the varsity squad. The new coach, Jamie Harrison, is planning to lead her girls through a victorious season.
“I want to focus on working as a team, communicating, and making our defense and offense as effective as possible. The team has been working hard and cannot wait for the season to start,” Harrison said.
