On Nov. 15, the student athletes of AHS filled the cafeteria for the annual fall sports banquet. Students from the football, field hockey, cross country, golf, cheerleading, volleyball and dance team participated in this event.
Each student was expected to bring an item or dish to the banquet based on their last name. Students with last names A-G were expected to bring side dishes, students with last names H-L brought desserts and students with last names M-Z brought main dishes.
The ceremony started at 6 p.m. with a meal for the athletes, families, and coaches who attended. At 7 p.m., all teams split up to different areas around the school for an award ceremony. During the awards ceremony, the athletes and coaches got to spend time with each other as a team talking about their season and accomplishments and handing out awards. For many students, the banquet was a way for them to spend time with their teammates again.
“I think the banquet was a really good way for us to see our team mates and other teams get together,” sophomore Hawa Ehsan said. “Because we all don’t have classes together.”
“I think it was one of the most best events I’d ever been to.” cross country coach Phil Harris said. “I love it, especially closing the season out.”
As fall comes to an end and winter makes its way around, the banquet marked an end to fall sports.
