Coaches look for athletes that have the ability to excel in the sport as well as a good attitude. “We take everyone, no matter what size, shape, color, skinny or tall. We take them all as long as they work hard,” Head Wrestling Coach Keith Sholders said.
Many returning athletes to the sport are excited to get the season started, and to meet the newcomers interested in joining the team. “I’m excited for swim season to start again, because we’re like a family!” junior Alli Foster said.
Athletes and coaches also look forward to repeating their wins from last year. “I’m looking forward to hopefully winning districts [in wrestling],” sophomore Jack Johnson said.
“I’m ready for post-season,” Sholders said. “I hope to have a repeat as district champions for both Varsity and JV teams, as well as having multiple players place as state winners.”
In order for students to participate in tryouts, forms such as the emergency care card form and the VHSL physical form must be submitted to coaches prior to trying out for the team.
“I’m excited to try a new sport,” junior Wally Geiger said.
