March Madness Approaching
Every year in March, March Madness, or the NCAA division I tournament means that students and fans from universities in each state are ready to show their spirit during basketball games. The tournament goes from March 13 until April 2; most of the basketball games are being played on weekdays and weekends. 68 college basketball teams are competing this year and have been since 2011. The most recent champions are the North Carolina team and the most titles held goes to the UCLA team. Basketball fans are eager to know who will win the tournament at the end of the month. They can follow the scores on sport websites and on social media.
Every team is for themselves because they hope to become national champions. Who is going to take the victory home? Some high school athletes and coaches predict each game’s winner to advance to the next round of the tournament. The first March Madness basketball tournament was on March 27, 1939 and the first two teams that played in that time was the University of Oregon and Ohio State University. March Madness is probably the most anticipated sporting event in the United States and a lot of fans watch their favorite teams compete.
Some students have free time whether in W4 or at home to watch the games when March Madness begins. Once a team wins a game, they celebrate because the athletes grow much bigger and hyped up. When their favorite college teams play, students wear their team colors, sing their fight songs, and cheer passionately for them while on the court. March Madness can turn into March Sadness if students are upset and angry that their teams didn’t advance.
Buying March Madness tickets is expensive for students, but many can confidently say the money is worth it. Some students will want to sit in front because they want to see both teams in that view. College athletic programs put spots in basketball courts for the students who are showing their spirit. Again, which college basketball team will walk out and become national champions? Stay tuned, the championship is fast approaching.
