Fall sports banquet
As the fall season comes to a close, athletes are celebrating their season at the Fall Sports Banquet. As per usual, the banquet will be held on Monday, November 16th at 6:00 pm in the cafeteria. Athletes, friends and parents will all be there in support of the team’s celebrations. Athletes, along with a few parents, dress semi-formally because this is an important event in their high school career that does not come by often.
They all gather in the cafeteria where they enjoy an enormous amount of food. This food is either made or bought by the families of the athletes. Athletes are assigned what kind of dish to bring based on their last name in order to not have too much of something. They bring dishes such as pizza, fried chicken, pasta cake.
Two lines are formed where the parents are usually given preference. Food along with drinks are set in the back of the cafeteria while desserts are left at the center. After everyone has had a chance to dig into the meal, the coaches make a speech to everyone there. In this speech, each coach honors their team accomplishments as well as give out individual awards. Next, each sport is assigned a room in the school where coaches have a chance to speak solely to their team and the parents of the team’s athletes.
Coaches go more in depth into how the season went and talk about the sacrifice that the athletes went through. Even more awards are handed out, not only to the athletes but to the coaches as well. Senior want to give something back to their coach after years of working together. They do this because they feel it is the least they can do for a coach that dedicates so much time to the team and sport. Many of the coaches also have a daytime job at the school either teaching classes or filling other positions such as security officer.
To give a final farewell to their coaches, seniors buy them gifts such as gift cards, something related to the sport, or something personal in order to give back for everything that the coaches have done for them. This kind gesture is one of the last interactions senior athletes will have with their coaches so senior attendance is definitely recommended. There is nothing not to love about the banquet. Food, drinks, laughter, reminiscent speeches, it perfectly wraps up a hard worked season and rewards the athlete for all their sacrifice. The Fall Sports Banquet is always an enjoyable thing to be a part of and all fall athletes should be there.
