“The new uniforms are ugly and distracting,” junior Amanda Villafana said. “Instead of actually watching the games I payed attention to the uniforms wondering ‘why?’ ”
Although any believe these new uniforms are a new design, they aren’t actually new. These “new” uniforms are the same uniforms that were worn by the Steelers in 1934. As to why they were wearing them in the first place, the Steelers team wanted a way to show their history for their 80th season celebration as well as the alumni weekend.
This past Sunday, the Pittsburgh Steelers played the Baltimore Ravens, but fans weren’t watching the game, they were instead staring at the Steelers’ throwback uniforms. Not only were these uniforms a poor fashion statement, they were also distracting. The alternating yelow and black stripes had viewers seeing blurs instead of players.
“They didn’t look like players, they looked like jail birds to me,” senior Christina Uglietta said. “It was extremely distracting.”
Surprisingly, some students actually didn’t mind the distraction. “It didn’t bother me much; as long as it didn’t throw off the other quarterbacks I could care less,” senior Omar Khatib said.
For now, fans are wondering if these tacky uniforms will stay or if they’ll die down. For now, fans will have to stay confused while watching Sunday football.
