Lunch has always been in one place, the cafeteria. But what if you had the opportunity to eat outside?
AHS used to have outdoor tables, but now they are gone. Will there ever be a chance that we could see more of them in the near future?
“During Covid we added tables outside and then removed then because we could not supervise each of those areas,” said Principal Shawn DeRose
Falls Church High School is accompanied by picnic tables and other schools have lunch tables outside that are used by students to eat or study on, but AHS is missing this feature.
“I would like to see more of it later on,” said freshman Jonaten Hernadez
A couple tables have been added outside but they are not always in one spot and can only fit eight students at one table.
“It’s weird going from a school with built-in outside tables to a school with little to none,” said freshman Jimmy Makeranga.
But there had been problems with the picnic tables, skipping has often been a problem and kids would also ditch.
“I would like to hope that the only risk it runs with is students taking advantage and hanging out in areas unsupervised or that students would just leave the campus,” said DeRose.
There is still a chance that we will be seeing picnic tables in the future, but everyone will need to wait and see.
“I’m open to the idea of having an outside seating area in addition to the courtyard, however it may be challenging due to the lack of supervision during all four lunches,” DeRose said.
