Social media threat targeted towards AHS

On Wednesday evening, March 9, a shooting threat made on social media was directed towards AHS.

After an investigation made by the School Resource Officer and Office of Safety and Security, the threat was deemed not credible and stated that there were no safety concerns.

Concerns arose amongst many students that saw the post.

“It’s definitely a scary feeling when you see something like that on social media because you never think that it’ll happen to you or that you’ll ever experience it,” senior Ugasa Ali said. “I’m just glad that it wasn’t credible

In an email sent out by Principal Shawn DeRose yesterday, he addressed the threat and confirmed that the threat was not credible.

“We are thankful to all who reported this post to us. The safety of our students is our primary concern, and we will always investigate these incidents as soon as we are made aware. The first step that you should take if your student shares a safety concern with you is to contact authorities,” DeRose said.

In case of an emergency, dial 911. Also, safety concerns can be reported on FCPS’ Safety Tipline which was created to allow students, staff and community members to report any concerns or issues anonymously. The tipline can be accessed here.
