Tardy policy enforced
After four tarides in a week, detentions will be issued
A new tardy policy has started at AHS where any student who gets a certain number of tardies will be given detention. The policy was implemented after administrators have seen an increase in students arriving late.
“I think it is really dumb,” senior Daniel Diaz-Torres said. “Sometimes people get to school late for legitimate reasons and this new policy will make things worse. I think the administrators should get rid of it.”
Detention will only be issued to students who have four tardies within one week.
“I think the new policy is good and bad. It is good in the sense that those who are consistently tardy will hopefully learn their lesson and be on time,” freshman Leo Marzigliano said. “I think it is bad for students who have a legitimate reason for being late, like talking to a teacher.”
Administrators have also started to crack down on teachers closing their doors at the start of the period to ensure students are marked tardy.
“I feel like this policy is a little too extreme. I understand that the administration needs to crack down on people who are late, but four tardies seems like a really small amount,” senior Denis Coca-Hernandez said.
