Orchestra prepares for concert

Orchestra students are preparing for their winter concert on Dec. 7

The winter season is typically one of the busiest seasons of the year. With the abundance of holidays, long breaks, sporting events and concerts, the Annandale Orchestra has stayed busy as they prepare for their next concert.

The Annandale Orchestra will be having their annual winter concert next Tuesday, Dec.7 at 7 p.m.
Orchestra students have been rehearsing for the winter concert following their performance at the Halloween concert during late October.

Their October performance featured performances from the Symphony, Philharmonic and Classical Orchestras.
Students in the orchestra are excited to perform their pieces that they have been preparing for weeks.

“I am proud of everyone in the orchestra for how hard they have all been working. I am confident that all of the hard work everyone has put in will pay off at the concert next week,” senior cellist Lauryn Mills said. “We are all super excited for the concert, but I’m also a little nervous considering that this is one of our bigger concerts.”

The orchestra concert will consist of a combined performance of “Calm and Bright” and “Ice Sculptures” from the Philharmonic and Symphony Orchestras.

Students have been anticipating performances from the fine arts department after the success of the fall theatre production of Puffs, and the last orchestra concert.

“I really enjoy watching performances from all of the fine arts departments, but my favorite would have to be the orchestra,” senior Ugasa Ali said. “I went to the Halloween orchestra concert and I literally had goosebumps because the music was so cool.”

For senior orchestra students, this upcoming concert will be their last winter concert.

“It feels a bit surreal and I’m a bit sad that it’s my last winter concert, but I’m happy that I am able to make music and perform with my fellow ensemble members in person,” senior violinist Ishat Hannan said.

Leading up to the concert, there will also be a bake sale to help raise money for the AHS Orchestra program.
