To prevent the spread of Covid-19, all Fairfax County Public School tracks, fields, and tennis courts were closed in order to maintain safety guidelines.

But, just in time for Memorial Day weekend, Fairfax County Public Schools will be reopening tracks and tennis courts for public use. Park authorities have begun re-opening and removing barricades at all parks starting on Wednesday, May 20.

“I am actually very happy to hear that the track will open up because I have been stuck at home and it would be nice to be able to get some laps around the track,” junior Lara Dib said.

It is important to note that restrooms and all portable restrooms are closed off to the public, and all water fountains are turned off.

There are several guidelines in place in order to ensure that safety is the top priority while people visit parks. Social distancing and maintaining small groups are one of most important regulations for park visitors. FCPS asks to keep groups under 10 people.

Park authorities are asking visitors to wear a face mask covering their noses and mouths and to wash their hands regularly with soap and water.

Although the tennis courts and tracks will be open, there are a handful of other places around the parks that will remain closed such as athletic fields, dog parks, basketball courts and more.

“I was a little bummed out to hear that the soccer fields have yet to open but I am sure everything will start to open up slowly but surely,” junior Nalin Rawat said.

Once FCPS receives proper guidance from the CDC, the reopening of buildings, restrooms and other park facilities will begin.
