Senior fees due today
Due to VA Governor Ralph Northam’s stay-at-home order, which extends to June 10, graduation ceremonies for seniors were cancelled.
Earlier this week, FCPS Superintendent Scott Braband announced that the School Board decided to reschedule the ceremonies to a date in the fall, as health officials say it would be unsafe to have one in the coming months. If conditions do not improve by then, the School Board will discuss having ceremonies during the winter or spring.
While plans are still being finalized, senior dues have been reduced to $20 to be paid through MySchoolBucks by Wed. May 20. Students who paid the previous $60 charge will be reimbursed.
Dues will cover the cost of caps, gowns, tassels, diploma covers, and two graduation programs.
In addition to rescheduling graduation ceremonies, the School Board announced two other plans to celebrate seniors.
In June, high schools will schedule graduation photo opportunities for each senior, who can be accompanied by a limited amount of family members.
Also, a video will be produced to celebrate the class of 2020, with students being able to submit photos and videos at a later time.
“I’m really happy to see that we are getting the possibility to celebrate all that we’ve done over the past 12 years, even if it is at a later time,” senior Abby Kitila said.
