You have to see On My Block
On my block is a very popular Netflix show watched by many teens all around the world. It is currently ranked in the top 10 shows/movies on Netflix.
The show is essentially about five high school teens who live in the hood and face challenges day by day by gang violence, friendship complications, and deaths. Many students at Annandale have been anxiously waiting for season 3 to come out.
These five teens are Jamal Turner (Brett Gray), Monse Finne (Sierra Capri), Ruby Martinez (Jason Genao), Cesar Diaz (Diego Tinoco), and Jasmine Arc (Jessica Marie Garcia).
There are other actors and actresses involved in the show but these five are the main ones. In season one and two there was another actress, Olivia (Ronni Hawk), but she died from a gunshot to the chest at her own birthday.
“I love this show so much because the writers never make the outcome obvious. This is especially true in season three. Not only did people’s circumstances change, but when new problems arose the characters handled the situations differently than I expected,” freshman Ruftana Beyene said.
There are shifts in friendship as well.
“The friendship dynamic between Monsè, Ruby, Jasmine, Cesar, and Jamal got so much more complex because not only do they have individual problems, but they have problems they have to solve together too. I liked Monsè less because her character became so selfish. This show made these characters problems real to the audience because these are real world problems. I love this show,” Beyene said.
