Harleen Review
“The road to Hell is paved with good intentions. On that road I saw a pale man, and he smiled at me…” Those are the words on the back cover of the first ‘Harleen’ book. Written by storyteller Stjepan Sejic of ‘Aquaman: Underworld’ and ‘Sunstone’ fame, this graphic novel series made by the DC Dark Label circles around Dr. Harleen Quinzel, a brilliant young psychiatrist looking for a cure to the madness of Gotham City, when one night, she comes face-to-face with the Joker. After the experience, she is transferred to Arkham Asylum, home to Gotham City’s most dangerous criminals, where she meets yet again the Joker. As she keeps visiting him more and more often, the reader sees as her sanity decreases, and starts to believe that there is still hope for this monster. This book series reimagines the origin story of one of DC’s greatest super-villains, with amazing dialogue, beautiful visuals, and a story which will keep readers on their feet, with all the twists and turns, as the story continues to see our protagonist transform into Harley Quinn. With the first two graphic novels out now, and the third one releasing this November, this is an excellent graphic novel any comic book fan should buy. Only $7.99 each at your local comic book store! Enjoy reading “Harleen” by Stjepan Sejic.
