Say ‘Hi’ to our New Head of Security, Mr. Taylor
Mr. Philip Taylor is the new Head of Security here at Annandale High School, which can make the student body wonder what he is like. After interviewing him, here we’re the basics on Mr. Taylor:
Phillip…….. Taylor got the job after Fairfax County put an ad out for security specialty, and had to do a background check. Originally, he was a selective enforcement officer for Oakton High School. He had a background there, after he finished his police career. He built relationships with the people there. He also worked at West Potomac High School. He was good with kids, so much so, that he received emails from his former students, wanting him to visit his old school. Mr. Taylor remembers those students, and was happy to hear that they had a positive impression, which he said was, “How I interact in a nutshell.”
His goals for this Annandale are good ones, “To create an environment… where students can feel safe… can come to the security team and staff.” He wants to know who these students are, wants to care about them and encourage them.
When asking about the school, Mr.Taylor responded fairly positive. He used to be assigned to the area. Had an after-school program where students form here cam. Did their homework, got tutored. Always had a connection to the school. One of the old areas he worked. Made relationships with the families. “It feels like coming back home,” he said.
When asked if there we’re going to be any other new rules, he said that the school he came from installed the sweep stations, knew they were effective, created great opportunities for kids to interact with teachers. Not going to implement any new rules. Wants to prevent students from skipping with patrols. Doesn’t really want food coming and going to school.
When asking the rest of the staff, the responses were fairly positive. Finance Technician Laura McLean stated that, “He seems great. Very friendly, good addition to our team here at the office.” Finance Assistant Marianna Conroy said that Mr. Taylor is, “Very warm, inviting to anyone who comes into the office. Willing to work with the team.” And Administration Assistant Susan Horteler thinks that, “He’s great he’s doing a wonderful job.”
Now, unfortunately, we couldn’t get any quotes from any students, but maybe they will start talking about Mr. Taylor, when they meet him.
