After the retirement of AHS principal Tim Thomas following a tenure of four years, the Atoms are pleased to announce his successor, Mark Merell. 

Beginning this August, Merell will serve as the interim principal until a permanent principal can be found. Prior to this school year, he worked with FCPS for over 32 years as a teacher and an administrator. 

He taught social studies classes for 16 years before serving as an administrator at McLean High School for an additional two years. Afterwards, Merell served as the principal at Madison High School for 14 years. 

He is very eager to get to know the Atoms and wants to be hands on with the learning experience at AHS.

“I look forward to celebrating student successes small and large and am committed to improving student achievement,” Merell said.
