Ford Acquires New Company to Rival Bird.
Ford acquired Spin, an electric scooter company recently. Ford purchased the company at a total price of $40 million dollars.
The re-branded Spin scooters will be released throughout Detroit in the next several weeks for public use.
Ford, who had been struggling lately in sales and has seen a slight dip in market share, is making an effort to diversify the company.
Electric scooters which have picked up in popularity in major cities across the United States such as New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles and many more.
The apparent market leader for electric scooters is a company known as Bird. Companies such as Bird and Lime have revolutionized the transportation market in cities where residents usually use walking as their main means of transportation.
“I think it’s definitely interesting that Ford is making the move to dip into the electronic scooter industry,” senior Sam Abourakty said. “I’ve used both Bird and Lime scooters in DC and hope they branch out to Annandale.”
There is no doubt that the market for electric scooters has gained traction in the past year and many can expect to see these scooters pop up in their local area.
