Students visit with D.C. United

AHS students with D.C. United Defender Steven Birnbaum

As part of Hispanic Heritage Month, ten AHS seniors had the opportunity to visit the D.C. United Headquarters.

The opportunity to visit the team headquarters came with a program named “Rompe Las Barreras” which translates to “Break through the Barriers”, a campaign that D.C. United is participating in.

Students had the opportunity to meet D.C. United Defender Steven Birnbaum and team General Manager Dave Kasper. Students also met other professionals affiliated with the team who shared with the students their job and career experiences as well as milestones.

Students were encouraged by team members and professionals to work hard and accomplish their goals in part with the program’s intention to have a positive impact on Hispanics in the United States.

In addition, the students also were in attendance for the D.C. United vs FC Dallas match-up at Audi Field on Oct. 13. D.C. United defeated FC Dallas 1-0 with a goal in the 86th minute by Russell Canouse to make the team eligible for the MLS playoffs.

It was also Noche Latina as hispanic music, bands, menus and entertainment were featured in order to highlight Hispanic Culture

The game was broadcast on Univision and students were honored during the game on the field at half-time.
