The Game v. Meek Mill
Meek Mill has made a continuing impression on the rap game, not only for his music but also for his constant beef with artists. Last summer he beefed with Drake, in what seemed to be a huge embarrassment after Drake’s diss track: Back to Back.
At the beginning of summer 16′, Sean Kingston and Meek Mill were in a Los Angeles night club. Sean Kingston had a bottle smashed on his head by a random man, and was then robbed.
Meek Mill said that the man was one of The Game’s goons. Following these events, The Game said that Meek Mill was a snitch and a rat for blaming it on him. The scene stayed silent for the months following the nightclub incident, until September. In September, The Game released a diss track towards Meek Mill titled 92 Bars.
“92 Bars was a really good starting point for the beef,” senior Mikael Mechal said. “It set the bar higher for the rest of the diss tracks to follow and really built up the tension between the two.”
92 Bars really kicked off the whole beef that would come in late September. In response to 92 Bars, Meek Mill stormed to Instagram and called out The Game for using his diss track to promote his upcoming album 1992.
“U wanna fight?” Meek wrote. “Next morning a diss raps.. Then pre-order links!”
In less than 30 minutes, The Game responded to the Instagram caption by posting a photo of him and Meek’s girlfriend, Nicki Minaj.
“Everybody know you the wife…If she take her followers back, you gone be back at 100k !!! #snitch #RatsWillDoAnythingForCheese #WeakMeal”
Not long after, Meek Mill released his long anticipated diss track. The track, title OOOOUUU Remix, featured Omelly and Beanie Sigel. Perhaps Meek Mill had learned from his last beef with Drake, where he took over a week to release an underwhelming diss.
By the time he has released it, Drake had released two diss tracks and has a third one ready.
“Meek Mill really fired back with the OOOOUUU Remix,” senior Gabriela Jordan said. “It showed the community that he had learned from his mistakes with Drake.”
This release was followed by a series of editorial-length Instagram captions throwing shade and another diss by The Game: Pest Control. He rapped over the same beat Meek did in his OOOOUUU Remix.
“Pest Control was a really good diss track,” Jordan said. “The Game definitely rapped over the beat better than Meek did.”
Just days after the release of Pest Control, The Game filmed the video for it in New York City. On his way back to Los Angeles he decided to stop in Philadelphia, Meek’s hometown, and get a cheesesteak.
“Now I’m going to kindly take my NORTH PHILLY cheesesteak to go,” The Game said, “& eat it on the bus.”
