Culinary sells food for Thanksgiving
With Thanksgiving just around the corner, the culinary classes are preparing for the season. Throughout the year, the culinary classes sell food such as pizzas and ethiopian food, and cater events with up to 100 people. Now, they are going to stop all production and start preparing for Thanksgiving.
It starts with Chef Gloninger, the culinary instructor here at AHS, buying turkeys for the class. The turkeys are pre-sold to students around the school. They then prepare to sell them by cleaning, seasoning, and putting them in pans. The class will prepare about 40 turkeys this year.
“We use the profit from the turkeys we sell to buy more and donate them to families in need around the school,” said Chef G.
The culinary 1 class prepares the turkeys. You must at least be a junior to be in Culinary 1. The class focuses on advanced cooking techniques, which is why they are the ones to prepare food for selling.
“I think it is good that we are using our class to give back, and do something in our class for others,” said junior Katie Garrish, “It makes me feel like I am doing something to help the Annandale community.”
