Taylor Swift 1989 World Tour
As I waited at the field gates to enter the Nationals Park field, I could feel the vibes from the exciting crowd screaming in joy to see Taylor Swift live.
On Monday 13 and Tuesday 14, Taylor Swift brought her 1989 World tour to the metropolitan area performing for a sold out crowd of 45,000 cheering fans on the two different dates.
Singers such as Shawn Mendes, Vance Joy and HAIM opened Taylor Swift’s concert for the next two hours.
As the Swifties fans walked in through the gates, Canadian singer Shawn Mendes performed his music for about an hour.
After Shawn Mendes had performed, singer Vance Joy sang his hit songs such as “Mess is mine,” “Georgia” and “Riptide.”
Last but not least, a rock pop band from California called HAIM closed the opening acts by playing their songs and entertaining the fans.
At 9:28 pm exactly, the lights went off and screams of joy could be heard from everywhere in the stadium screaming “Taylor, Taylor.” Finally, Taylor came out and sang her singles “Welcome to New York” followed by “New Romantics” where her and the crowd danced and jumped along her songs. After she sang her two opening songs she gave a welcome speech where she thanked the crowd for receiving her in D.C.
“I want to look you in the eye and tell you thank you so much for caring for this album, for memorizing all the lyrics of it, for welcoming into your life. You are absolutely changing my life,” said Swift in her speech.
She also explained the meaning behind her latest album, 1989.
“ I wrote 1989 about love and lessons I learned for the past three years. This is about the lessons I learned in two years.”
The stadium was designed like a Broadway scenario and New York’s street style with black and white lights at the beginning of the show where she performed “Welcome to New York.”
As any other Taylor concert, fans are always anxious to know who will be the guest artist that will join Swift on stage since she is always trying to make her fans happy. Throughout the concert Taylor confirmed that indeed there was going to be a very “special” guest joining her on stage and asked the fans to be alerted.
Besides singing and dancing, Taylor like always, had a surprise for the fans that was unforgettable.
After Swift finished her song “I Know Places,” she gave the fans the three final hints of who was going to join her onstage. Her first hint was that artist traveled 19 hours from her hometown just to perform at her show in D.C. Second, she won a Grammy for song of the year and third, she is a very close friend of her. Among screams from fans Lorde joined Taylor and sang her hit “Royals” featuring Taylor Swift.
Shortly after Lorde performed, Taylor experienced a stage malfunction where she was stuck at high altitude, but that did not stop her from continuing with the show. Instead, she told the fans that that night was going to be epic.
“I’ll just be here forever. Stuck up here, unless I choose to jump down,” said Taylor Swift when she did not know what to do or how to get down. “It’s going to be a unique show D.C.”
Besides surprises, music and unexpected surprises, Taylor shared a very intimate moment with the fans about love and breakups and gave advice on how to deal with situation where someone feels hopeless and alone.
In conclusion, Taylor concluded her epic performance by singing “Out of the Wood” with dark images playing in the screens and singing her very last song “Shake it Off.” Fireworks from everywhere went off while Taylor thanked everyone from coming.
