On Jan. 15, the first Yu-Gi-Oh club meeting was held in room 263. The first meeting included students from all grades showing up to show off their cards and duel a little. Yu-Gi-Oh TV show, as well as a card game that is played by many young kids. The president of the club, sophomore Conrad Shartel, thought it would be fun to bring the game back to high schoolers since many still have their cards.
“I loved the game as a kid, and I knew my friends did too, so I thought it would be fun to play again,” Shartel said.
The club meets every other week on Thursdays, and has been trying to meet for a while now.
“The snow days made us have to lose about two because of cancellations, so it was great that we could finally have the first meeting,” Shartel said.
The club would like to hold tournaments in the future, and even duel other schools that have clubs as well, such as Robinson Secondary School.
“I can’t wait to have huge tournaments and win, and I think I have a chance cause my deck is really strong,” sophomore Toby Singh said.
Many students have kept their cards from when they were younger, but many have also started to buy new ones now that the club has started up.
“I bought a lot of new cards that are really strong and I think they will give me a large advantage,” sophomore Ben Betts said.
“I found a lot of my old ones, then spent my Christmas money on new ones and made an awesome deck,” Shartel said.
The club had a solid turnout of about 16 people, and hopes to grow in the future. They plan on putting up posters, making t-shirts and using their twitter account (@AtomsYuGiOH) to gain publicity and make their numbers even higher.
The club hopes to see a lot of people at the next meeting.
