Latin students attend convention
Interum victrix! The AHS Latin Program has emerged from the Virginia Junior Classical League with multiple wins once again. They competed among more than 3000 Latin students from all across Virginia at the Latin Convention in Richmond on Nov. 24.
The students that attended took tests and presented projects. Many of the AHS Latin students placed for their projects and tests.
“It was just a whole bunch of Latin people from all over Virginia and they just all came together,” sophomore Christina Olkowski said. She entered a drawing of the goddess Diana and won third place.
Junior Drew Hendrickson managed to walk away with a total of three awards including first place for his English oratory in the style of Cicero, sixth place for his academic test on mottoes, and seventh place for his geography test.
Along with the presentations and tests, students were given the opportunity to attend lectures, talk to people with classical majors, and learn new things.
“It was really fun because I got to learn Greek and now I can read Greek,”sophomore Amiansu Khanal said. “It’s really educational.”
Khanal won fourth place for her English Oratory.
