The next two JV Math League meetings are Nov. 6 and Dec. 4.

Junior Math League held its first monthly meeting in the cafeteria on Thursday, Oct. 9. Students enrolled in Algebra 2 Honors or lower were able to participate. They were given a six-question test consisting of algebra and geometry.

“The questions require you to analyze and use your thinking skills,” said geometry teacher Leonida Gibson. “More than fifty students came to take the test.”

Participants were given about half an hour to work, with snacks and drinks provided during testing. This meet did not allow calculators, but they will permitted during the next meeting.

The scores that students receive at these meetings are sent and used to compete against other students in the county.

“Our school has won twice in past years,” said Gibson. “Students should come because they can practice their skills in this county-wide event.”

Many math teachers offer extra credit point for students who come to take the test.

“I came mostly for to earn extra points but also to get challenged,” said freshman Marvi Islam.

With thirty minutes to complete the test, only about five questions are available for each question.

“Some of the questions were hard, some were easy,” said Islam.

At the end, the scrap papers are collected and an answer sheet is passed out.

The next meet will be on Wednesday, November 6. “I will definitely come next time,” said Islam.
