As graduation approaches, students affected with senioritis are becoming commonplace. Just concentrating in class is near impossible. Many have already been accepted to college and see no reason to maintain their current GPAs. Even IB students are beginning to fall victim to ‘senior slump.’
“Senioritis acted as an additional burden on top of IB classes and exams,” senior Lyly Lieu said. “The thought of being in college next year is the only thing helping me through these last few weeks.”
Full-IB students will constantly be out of class during May either because they are testing or at home studying. This does not leave much time to pay attention to grades.
“As a full IB Diploma candidate, there is a plethora of IB tests I will be taking in May. Therefore, I will have to miss a large number of classes,” senior Harris Fitzgerel said.
Teachers are beginning to see more and more laziness among seniors. Many students sleep in class and choose not to do homework while out of school. Some have even chosen to stop attending school altogether.
“May is the exam month and also the end of the seniors’ high school experience; you see sleepy students everyday,” IB Geography teacher John Hawes said. “What you hope is that they would continue to do their best. Many, however, do not.”
