On Jan. 15, the National Honor Society held its sixth meeting this year to discuss their service project. All members met in Clausen Hall during Atom Time.
“NHS is a society reserved for the best of the best AHS students. It is an honor to be around all of these great students,” club historian Madeline de Mello said.
Mr. Randazzo endorsed a tutoring project for the club’s members to meet their community service hours for the year. By the end of the year, members need to have a minimum of eight hours.
“What a better way for students to learn from others to help each other out. I’m very glad that NHS decided to do it,” principal Mr. Randazzo said.
The mood in the room was generally optimistic after the announcement. Members were looking forward to helping peers improve their grades.
“So far, I have four hours towards my service project,” junior Tyler Pacak said. “Getting the remaining four by tutoring will be a breeze.”
All members must tutor for six sessions during either atom time or after school.
“In previous years we’ve cleaned Ossian Park and done clothing and shoe drives for Home Stretch,” NHS sponsor Katie Raffaeli said. “I think tutoring is a much more direct way of giving back to the school.”
