On November 7 at 7 p.m., the drama department put on an open dress rehearsal for their fall production, Greater Tuna.
“It’s going really well! The actors are doing an excellent job; the lighting has been really good and [the show] is really funny and worth coming to see,” proud AHS parent, Jennifer Montes De Oca said.
Greater Tuna is set in the small town of Tuna, Texas and portrays a redneck radio show, introducing many witty characters throughout.
With a colorful barn covered in signs and a backdrop with changing colors, the characters pop against this detailed setting.
“The props and sound effects really add to quality of the play,” senior Omar Khatib said.
One of the starring characters is Bertha Bumiller, an average Southern “Mama” played by senior Andy Riddle. From his fake chest to his bright red lips, this cross-dressing character sparked laughs throughout the theater.
“I think it’s great so far! I think everyone will enjoy it and laugh a lot,” Riddle said.
The costumes that the different characters had on really showcased the time period and type of county of Tuna, Texas.
“I think that despite some problems with the script, [the show] is saved by the great acting, especially the part of Struvie and Weelis,” said senior Alexander Lash. Lash plays the role of Weelis; a redneck radio talk show host.
The shows on Nov. 9 and Nov. 10 are both $10 and will be performed at 7 p.m. All proceeds from the show will go to the drama department.
