Everyone knows European’s UEFA soccer league is ten times tougher than any other league. Anyone who has been watching the Euro Cup so far this summer can tell you that. This tournament has caught the interest of many people not only in Europe but also here in America.
Not only is the tournament a good way to show off some of you r favorite player’s skill and entertain, but according to the UEFA website, for every goal scored UEFA is donating 3,000 Euros. To make sure the best team comes out the winner, the games are organized by a point system, points are subtracted if a game is lost, and points are added if won.
In the tournament, the country’s teams are split into four groups, groups A, B, C, and D. In Group A, there is Czech Republic, Greece, Russia, and Poland; so far Czech Republic is leading with six points overall. In Group B, there is Germany, Portugal, Denmark, and Netherlands. Surprisingly, Portugal, the fan favorite, is second behind Germany in Group B. Germany is winning with nine points. Group C consists of Spain, Italy, Croatia, and the Republic of Ireland with Spain winning with an overall score of seven points. Last, but not least, Group D’s teams are England, France, Ukraine, and Sweden. England is at the top with seven points overall.
Each team has its star players that are fan favorites. For Portugal, there is the oh-so-famous Cristiano Ronaldo, who has scored most of the goals for Portugal. On the Spanish team, Fernando Torres is one of the favorites as well as Xavier Hernandez, commonly known as Xavi. For the British they have Rooney, but unfortunately, Rooney had to sit out for three matches because of his two yellow cards, that automatically turn into a red card. That red card exempts him from the next three matches.
The teams continuing to the finals this Sunday, July 1st will be Italy and Spain. After an intense game between Spain and Portugal that continued into penalty kicks, in the end, Spain came out on top. Also, in an intense game between Germany and Italy, Italy pulled through with a win of 2-1.
As people are waiting for the 2014 World Cup, the Euro Cup is giving them just enough soccer drama and skill for the summer. It’s safe to say that the Euro Cup 2012 will be talked about for the rest of the summer. It’s hard to say who will win, but Spain v Italy will definitely be one intense game.
