On September 29, AHS students voted for their specific grade’s Homecoming court. The students that are chosen will represent AHS at school-sanctioned events such as the Homecoming football game. The eight students selected will represent AHS for the 2011-2012 school year.
During the W4 block, all students watched the morning announcements by the leadership students. The leadership class sponsors the elections. Then, each student received a ballot pertaining to their grade. The slips contained the names of several boys and girls, the number varying by grade level.
The names were determined by peer nomination during lunch every day during the week of September 19-23. For freshmen, sophomores and juniors, the top three candidates of each gender with the most amount of votes were the official court nominations. Only two people will be selected. For seniors, there were nine nominees for each gender. The recent voting has put students in the mood for the Homecoming game and dance.
“Homecoming is great. Parents can’t keep you home for Homecoming, so everybody gets together as a huge group!” sophomore Carly Potts said. “I want everything to go perfectly since it only happens once a year.”
The winners for each court will be announced the following W4. AHS students become continuously more excited as Homecoming draws nearer. The date stays on the calender, and the days will be counted down until the dance is held on October 15.
“I don’t really know what to expect, but I will definitely go since there will be only four chances for this in my entire life,” freshman Katherine Onguitan said.
