Not everyone realizes that as AHS’s spring sports come to an end, so do other prominent AHS activities. AHS’s choral department had their Spring Performance Wednesday; this was their last performance of the year. Every chorus was represented in the concert and sang from two to four songs. However, Annandale Singers had a larger role in the performance. The chorus concert was open to the public, but the majority of those attending were students, teachers and parents.

The show was also, in essence, choirs senior night. Awards were given to seniors and letters were given out to those singers that qualified. “I was really excited because this year I got a letter and we had some amazing songs,” sophomore Sarah Hatch said. Hatch is part of the Women’s Ensemble and is planning on continuing chorus throughout high school.

The chorus feels that this was a success year as they one many awards and received many accolades. “This year has been a great year for AHS’s choral program,”sophomore Emily Blank said. Blank is also in the Women’s Ensemble with Hatch.

After the show, there were a lot of teary-eyed seniors and parents. “It’s really sad because it’s our last time performing in the AHS auditorium and we [the seniors] have gotten close over the last few years so this was a combination of all our efforts,” senior Tori Clodfelter said. Clodfelter joined chorus her freshman year and is now an Annandale Singer. She is planning on majoring in musical theater in college.

Now that this years program is coming to a close, students are looking towards the future of the department. “I’m excited to see what next year has in store,” Blank said.

In addition, others are happy because of the new opportunities that they can take advantage of in the choral department. This especially rings true for the freshman singers. “I’m excited for next year because I’ll be able to audition for a better group,” freshman Victoria Huenemann said. According to the choral website, auditions for next years program take place on May 25, starting at 3:15 p.m. Those auditioning will have to sing “How Lovely Is Thy Dwelling Place” from Brahms’ “Requiem.”
